The story
A kitchen that finally looks at the garden.
Daniel and Jo bought the parlor floor with a galley kitchen and a bricked-up rear window. They wanted room to cook together and a table the size of the family.
We opened the rear wall, exposed and sistered the original joists, and moved the sink to the new window. The island took the place of a half-wall that had been in the way since the 1970s.
Because the house sits in a historic district, the exterior window needed Landmarks approval. We filed it in week two, and the cabinet shop built in parallel, so the kitchen was installed the week the approval arrived.
